CBC’s Women’s History Month Highlight Kaci Merriwether-Hawkins

CBC’s Women’s History Month Highlight Kaci Merriwether-Hawkins

It’s March so you know we had to take the time to celebrate women that we admire and are doing amazing things within their respective communities. First up is Kaci Merriwether-Hawkins, the genius behind Black Girls In Art Spaces. Over the past couple of years, she was able to build and grow a community for Black women who love art! Through her meetups in multiple cities each year, she has been able to cultivate this community in real life as well. Not only is she organizing meetups in art spaces but she’s also being intentional with organizing them around black art in efforts to support black artists.

We were able to connect with Kaci and asked her a few questions to learn a bit about her.

What's the best advice that you received from a woman?
Kaci: "Focus on the harmony, not the balance."
How do your past experiences help you navigate what's to come in the future?
Kaci: I truly believe that God has used every piece of my story for a purpose greater than myself, and because of that I have learned to show myself grace and to express gratitude for where I was, where I'm at, and where I'm going. Gratitude is my key to navigating this life in the most beautiful way possible.

Think back to your younger self, what insight would you give her on the woman that you are today?
Kaci: I would say to my younger self...."Your best self is not in your accolades or workload. You will feel your best when you're spending intentional time with God, tending to your wellness, and around people you love. It's simple."

Powerful isn’t it?! We want to thank Kaci for allowing us to celebrate her this month! We can’t wait to see what she does next!

Be sure to check out Black Girls In Art Spaces and support her community!

Happy Women’s Day!!!
